NMT

After a week off due to the miniscule amount of albums released this early in the year, The Circle Pit is back with a week jam packed with metal. There’s a little something here for everyone without a doubt, and so much metal that you could spend all week just catching up on this list of releases. Without further ado, here are this weeks releases in metal for Tuesday, January 18th.

Alcest

First up is the former French black metal band turned shoegazers, Alcest. Their newest release “Shelter” is already up for streaming on Spotify so I’ve already gotten to spin this one a couple times. It’s safe to say I’m impressed. I found myself lost in the lush, sparkling clean guitars and the vast, open space these guys create in their songs. Check this out.

IcedEarth

Iced Earth have returned again with their latest release, “Plagues of Babylon.” This is the band’s second release with the band’s fourth singer, Stu Block, of Into Eternity fame. Though he is without a doubt a talented singer, I still feel like he hasn’t lived up to the bar he set on the Into Eternity releases. Regardless, this is still Iced Earth, and it all sounds like Iced Earth on this one. The songs are a little longer than they were on “Dystopia” but that’s about it. This one is also streaming on Spotify already, so get to it.

Indian

Indian is a band I just discovered last week courtesy of a Pitchfork sponsored stream of their latest album, due out today, titled “From All Purity.” After spinning this album once or twice I’ve come to the conclusion that these guys make up one gnarly black metal/doom metal hybrid. And they can bring the heavy, completely and utterly bleak atmosphere you most deeply desire. This is a must listen, and with it streaming on Pitchfork, it couldn’t be more convenient.
