TwelveFootNinja3

A single shinobi with twelve feet? Or a 4 meter (roughly) tall assassin?!

HAS SCIENCE GONE TOO FAR?!

From Australia, Twelve Foot Ninja amazes me again with their incredibly unique combination of genres in one badass package. It is not possible to classify what these fellas do in simple terms…

A little Jazz…

Some funk…

A dash of world…

All wrapped up in a devastating heaviness…

It is all melded together into such a beautiful aural adventure that this music transcends these typical labels. Having been a huge fan of their first full-length album “Silent Machine”, I immediately checked out their earlier EP’s and was irrevocably hooked on their unique brand of metal.

Their new masterpiece “Outlier” follows suit and delivers on every level I expected it to. Every track flows along with such a buttery groove; you won’t even realize you’ve spent 40 minutes jamming out when the album starts over. Yes, starts over. Trust me, you’ll have that bad boy on repeat.

Starting with one of the heavier tunes on the album, “One Hand Killing” is but a small taste of the complex variety of flavors this album will delight you with. You’ll think you have an idea of how it will sound with the dissonance and low chugs at first, but will be taken aback when you get slapped with the FUNK. I say slapped; but they blend it so well, it’s more like a gentle caress.

So gentle.

As the album progresses through titles like “Invincible” and “Oxygen”, you will be singing along and uncontrollably banging your head before you know it. So many beautiful melodies and harmonies fill the vocal lines while the instrumentation soothes your soul (if you still have one). That being said, the soothing is only to prepare you for the thickness of the metal side of the Twelve Foot Ninja die. Which is brutal.

FUCKING love Oxygen, by the way.

Not the gas that helps me stay alive, but I guess that is cool too…

I’m not talking about the element…

Though I do make some elemental references.

Periodically…

Ahem…

I’ll see myself out…

As I’ve stated previously, their sound is very hard to label into a genre and really, the only way you’ll understand what I mean is by experiencing to the album.

Once you have a taste, I doubt you’ll be able to stop.

I highly recommend this album and have been blasting it since it has entered my life.

As the end of the year approaches I have been starting to decide what my top albums for the year will be and this release is DEFINITELY going to be on it. Absolutely love this album and it was well worth the wait.
