As we’re sure a number of you have heard, Misha Mansoor recently declared in an interview with Rick Beato that his band Periphery makes no profit in itself. All the members have to work towards other, more passive streams of income to actually make a living. This came as a shock to some considering Periphery is among the biggest bands in their particular lane. Given this, a lot of newer musicians are now reconsidering how they approach music from a business perspective.

With the turning of decades, money within music has become an increasingly common issue as the revenue declines and demand increases. We live in a digital streaming age where conventional mediums of music and album sales have taken a nosedive financially. Many still suffer from delusions of rockstars past that they will likely never touch sans the proper angles.

However some bands are using this new internet-centric musical landscape to their advantage to try new and different approaches to marketing their music. And where there’s a will, sometimes there’s a way.

Remember Art Against Agony? We recently introduced these mysterious German genre benders for what they are – a different breed of band! That led to an interesting interview on their unorthodox approach to music. Now, that approach has a bit of reactionary twist to it as they build towards the release of an all new album. They’ve launched a Patreon account to support their mad scientist brand of musical experimentation! You can sign up and get goods by CLICKING HERE.

In just a few years, they’ve taken a fully independent route to produce 2 full-length albums and an EP. This has also led them to tour around their home continent and all the way over in South America and Russia, all on their own accord. They’ve been paying their dues for awhile and are looking to diversify moving forward.

Right now, they’re working on LP #3 known as “Shiva Appreciation Society” and want to give their fans a unique experience through its creation. That’s precisely why they’ve launched this Patreon account. So check it out and show some love if you’re interested! Contribution levels range from 1€-50€ and cover everything from receiving the album itself to actually getting your hands dirty helping with the production process of the album! That’s right – you can get involved and get a raw look into the actual process – giving direct feedback and all.

There’s also a very limited run of T-shirts you can get your hands on so act soon! This just launched so, if you’re reading now, you get first pick!

The band themselves had the following to say of the creation process behind this new album and future touring plans!

“The third album of the artist collective will be very experimental and progressive, yet one can expect a big focus on the bands Indian percussion player the_maximalist and their piano player the_surgeon, giving both of them a major spotlight.

The band will release their new record in October 2018 and follow up with a European tour, and there is more to come! We remain very exited to hear what else is in the works soon!”
