Background: Long Island NY’s Extinction A.D are a hidden gem in the thrash genre, the four-piece is made up of drummer Mike Sciulara formerly of Light The Torch and This Is Hell, Rick Jimenez on vocals and guitar (also of This Is Hell), Ian Cimaglia on guitar and Tom Wood on bass. The band’s new EP, Choas, Collusion, Carnage, & Propaganda is out now on Unique Leader Records.

This Album Sounds Like: A full-frontal assault to the senses, old school and (slightly) blackened thrash riffs compete for centre stage resulting in a furious, breathtaking hell ride. A real treat for thrash fans of all ages, there is enough here for the old school and plenty for the new wave. Riffs come at you at a million miles an hour to burst out of your speakers. This is accompanied by pounding drums and a layer of thick, tight bass work.

Some Favorite Tracks: With this being a four-track EP it would be easy to suggest all of them as favourites but at a push, for me, it has to be “Choas” and “Propaganda”. The first kicks the EP off and lets you know exactly what to expect in the best way, the latter, threatens to slow things down towards the end of both the track and EP but keeps its level of intensity high.

Positives: Four tracks of heavy, relentless thrash mayhem tightly packed into an enjoyable, well-structured EP that works as a perfect introduction to the band and their back catalogue. This record is sure to make new fans immediately. With the backing of Unique Leader Records, this band are prepared to take things to the next level.

Negatives: Easily a negative to throw out there would be that it’s too short, even for an EP but this is simply a testament to the quality of the record overall. For me, I would have liked a little more light thrown on the bass work but that’s of course subjective.

In The End… This is a quality EP, well worthy of repeat spins, it’s energetic, aggressive, heavy and oh so enjoyable. Pick this one up if you have any love for modern and old school thrash metal, you won’t regret it.
