We’re bringing back another installment of Throwback Thursday. This week we’re throwing back further than ever before to a time of dragons, wizards, and rainbows in the dark. After leaving Black Sabbath, the legendary Ronnie James Dio went on to form the band Dio in 1982 along with fellow ex-Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. Although Ronnie was the only long lasting member of the group. The name “Dio” can be translated to “God” in Italian. That’s a great description of the band and Ronnie James Dio himself who is firmly seated among the metal gods \m/ He’s the one who made those horns in the first place. He is metal incarnate.

The band released 10 studio albums over 2 decades, yielding several masterpieces such as “Holy Diver”, “Dream Evil”, and “The Last In Line”. On these records came damn near countless classic songs. “Rainbow in the Dark”, “All the Fools Sailed Away”, “We Rock”, “Don’t Talk to Strangers”, “Stand Up and Shout”, “Mystery” and all the title tracks just to name very few. There are a handful of vintage music videos available below for your listening / viewing pleasure.

The last studio album, “Master of the Moon”, was released in 2004. And unfortunately their eleventh, “Magica II”, was never released. The band permanently dissolved in 2010 with the tragic death of Ronnie to stomach cancer. His legend will NEVER be forgotten as he lives on through his music and inspiration for countless artists.
